In 1941, the Italian Army decided to develop a powerful anti-tank self-propelled gun equipped with the powerful 90/53 anti-aircraft gun. The gun was mounted open-top, with only a large mantlet at the front of the gun protecting the gun operator from enemy bullets and shell fragments. At the time of its development, it was assumed that this vehicle would utilize the power of its gun to attack from a distance of approximately 2,000 meters, out of range of enemy tanks, and it was thought that there would be no problems with defense. The M14/41 tank was used for the chassis, but the suspension arrangement was changed. The engine was moved to the center of the hull to accommodate the large 90mm anti-aircraft gun, and the gun was mounted at the rear of the hull. Production took place at Fiat Ansaldo, and it is said that 48 vehicles were completed by the end of the armistice in September 1943. It was used in the Battle of Sicily and the Italian Front. This vehicle took advantage of its long range and high destructive power to serve as an effective defensive force in battles throughout the country. Some of the vehicles that survived the Italian armistice were also used by the German Army. It was used as a long-range self-propelled gun in the mountainous regions of northern Italy at the end of the war.
