The Type 95 is a main battle tank adopted in 1935. "Ha" is a secret name given in the order of development, and indicates the third development tank in alphabetical order. In the 1930s, the Type 89 was slow and people were dissatisfied with it; in addition, the gun it carried had a low muzzle velocity for infantry support, and was insufficient for anti-tank purposes. Any replacement tank was also required to be inexpensive, as it was thought that a certain amount of tanks would be required. The armor was set as a maximum of 12mm, as it was thought that it was sufficient to withstand machine gunfire at the time. When production began, it was deployed on all fronts and fought hard as the main force of the Japanese Army. A radio was not initially installed, but later vehicles were made that were equipped with an antenna similar to that of the Chi-Ha vehicle.
